Ethical Harvesting

Clearly, we love plants. We have been working more intimately with the plants recently and wanted to share with you what we have experienced and learned about harvesting. In the West, we tend to hold the view that we are separate from nature. That we can take from it whenever we want without ever asking permission. Seems pretty one sided. Could you imagine if we treated plants like friends? Got to know them, asked them what they needed, and how we could help them? That is exactly what it’s like to be in a good relationship with nature. You view and treat plants or places in nature like friends. Ethical harvesting means people work with the land and plants with respect and cooperation. It honors that we are all connected and what we do to it, we do to ourselves. When we are taking care of the plants and land in this cooperative way, both parties flourish and thrive. The land grows healthier and stronger and the people do too. It’s a symbiotic relationship sustaining life for all.

Ethical Harvesting

  • Develop a relationship with the plant, asking what it needs.

  • Always ask permission before doing something to it.

  • Make an offering to the plant—water, food, blessings, tobacco etc.

  • Give thanks to your friend for this exchange of magic.

A Few Things About White Sage

  • White Sage is over-harvested in the wild so we do not collect her.

  • We recommend growing her in your yard or finding an ethical source to buy from.

  • White sage bundles are to be unbundled and used leaf by leaf for burning, as a little goes a very long way!

  • She is a powerhouse when it comes to clearing away anything that is not true.

  • She is the plant we start with in our home clearings as she opens up sacred space and clears out any dense, stagnant energies or inauthenticities.

Enjoy getting to know your plant friends! They are wise teachers and guides who have come long before us. Listen to their wisdom or simply just bask in their unconditional love! They are so happy when we acknowledge them and show our gratitude for all that they do for us. Thank you plants!

Love,

Lyndsey
